Cartagena was founded by Spanish conquerors as a main port to bring Europeans and their goods into South America. More importantly it was used to transport gold, silver and other precious minerals from all over the continent across the Caribbean and on to the Old World. Cartagena is Colombia’s most visited port.

Port Oasis (also known as Port Oasis Ecopark) is a wildlife sanctuary and eco-garden located inside the cruise port area right at the Cartagena cruise terminal. It’s a pleasant, green oasis designed as a natural space with birds and other animals that you walk through as you arrive at or depart from the port on your cruise.

Animals in Port Oasis are often rescued or rehabilitated by environmental authorities and either released later or remain in protected care. That is where we decided to spend some time today.

But the Big News is how we will be spending our evening. Here are a few hints:

Yes, tonight the University of Miami will be playing Ole’ Miss in the Fiesta Bowl. My brother Brian is a University of Miami graduate, and I swear I’ll be able to hear him cheering from Florida. If Miami wins on to the National Championship.

Let’s hope I’ll be able to share some positive results in my next blog.

Thanks for traveling with us…
